National Defence Academy

You can take the NDA entrance exam while you are in class XII or after passing class XII and you have an option of joining Army, Navy, Airforce and Naval Academy subject to meeting educational parameters and clearing UPSC written exam for the given choices. Clear the UPSC exam and after 5-day Services Selection Board Interview pass your medicals, and you’re in NDA subject to meeting all eligibility conditions and availability of vacancies. Three years in NDA and you will be a much improved person.

The selected candidates for the three services, Army, Navy and Airforce are given preliminary training in both academic and physical for a period of 3 Years at the National Defence Academy which is an Inter-Service Institution. The training during the first two and half years is common to the cadets of three wings. The cadets on passing out will be awarded B.Sc./B.Sc.(Computer)/BA. Degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.

On passing out from the National Defence Academy, Army Cadets go to the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Navel Cadets to Indian Naval Academy Ezhimala and Air force cadets to Air Force Academy, Hyderabad. Gentlemen Cadets during the entire duration of training in Service Academies i.e. during training period at IMA shall be entitled to stipend of Rs 21,000/- p.m.

National Defence Academy (NDA) & Naval Academy (NA), is a national level entrance exam, which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), twice a year. NDA & NA exam is conducted for the recruitment of young cadets in the different wings of the Indian Armed Forces including Army, Navy and Air Force. More than 4 lakh students apply online for the NDA & NA exam every year to be a part of the Defence forces of the country.

Application Form

The application form for the online registration of NDA & NA  is available now on the official website of UPSC (https://upsconline.nic.in/). Candidates can follow the under-mentioned steps to fill the online form of NDA Exam:

  • The candidates need to complete 2 parts of registration of the NDA & NA Exam.
  • In the 1st part, the candidates need to fill their personal details like their name, father & mother’s name, identity proof, educational qualification, marital status, address etc.
  • Candidates also need to mention their branch preference (Army/ Navy/ Air Force).
  • Registration ID will be generated after the submission of this part.
  • Next, the candidates are required to upload their photograph and signature in the dimensions specified by UPSC and pay the requisite fees for the NDA Exam.

Curriculum

Candidates undergo a full-time under graduation programme under NDA, where they are awarded a Baccalaureate degree (i.e. the degree of either Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts, depending on the stream of study). The duration of the course is 3 years. Students are awarded the degree if Jawaharlal Nehru University upon completion of the course.

Selection Procedure

The Selection Procedure of NDA & NA Exam involves the following stages-

  1. Offline Objective exam
  2. SSB Interview
  3. Medical Fitness

Exam Pattern

The exam of NDA & NA consists of 2 parts, namely,

  1. Part I: Mathematics
  2. Part II: General Ability Test

Each test is of 2.5 hours.

Syllabus

Students must be aware of the detailed syllabus of the NDA & NA exam for an effective overall preparation.

  • The topics asked in the Mathematics section include:
    Trigonometry, Algebra, Vector Algebra, Differential & Integral Calculus, Matrices & Determinants, Geometry, Statistics & Probability.
  • The topics of General Ability test comprise of Vocabulary, Comprehension, Grammar, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, History and Current Affairs.
